Tennessee RADON PROGRAM - Home Page

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas. It is released during the natural decay of uranium, which is found in most rock and soil. Radon can accumulate in homes and other buildings and is the second leading cause of lung cancer. Radon is odorless, colorless, and tasteless so the only way to know if radon is present is to test.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) operates the statewide indoor Radon Program as part of the Office of Sustainable Practices. We offer a myriad of services and assistance: free test kits for homeowners, technical information for schools, and specific materials for targeted audiences who regularly interact with radon such as real estate professionals, contractors, building codes officials, and home inspectors. Our commitment is strong but our message is simple. Test your home for radon today.
